    For better or worse, communication styles influence the way we perceive—and are perceived by—others. Understanding communication styles and strategically using them in different situations can enhance graduate students’ and postdocs’ experiences with students, faculty, researchers, and other individuals. In this session you will learn more about what it means to have a supportive, emotive, reflective, or directive communication style. You will also brainstorm how to work effectively across different communication styles to bring about positive outcomes and manage conflict.

    Join the Ohio Union Activities Board (OUAB) to learn about all of the services, programs and opportunities for grad/prof students in one place. More than 80 university departments, Columbus institutions, and student organizations will be represented. "Drop in" anytime between 4 - 7 pm.

    The Graduate Teaching Orientation is an annual event designed specifically for new Ohio State Graduate Teaching Associates (GTAs) to reduce anxieties, provide techniques and strategies for effective teaching and suggest resources for further assistance.

    On August 13 from 10:30-12pm the Office for Research and Graduate Education will be hosting an informational Town Hall for all CFAES graduate students. Each of the panelists (below) is involved with graduate representation at some level and will address students about the fall semester and return to campus, issues of racial justice, and respond to submitted questions.

This session explores the opportunity to create more inclusive and welcoming learning environments that honor the diverse needs and preferences of students during this unprecedented time.

    In the months since the COVID-19 pandemic began, Asian Americans and Asians around the world have experienced heightened levels of verbal and physical aggression and attacks. Nationally, our country is seeing hate crimes against Asian and Asian American folks increase at an alarming rate. Unfortunately, this is not the first time a public health crisis has been conflated with pre-existing bias, and it has been heavily noted by historians that throughout history, disease and racism have gone hand-in-hand.
