This boot camp will provide you with a brief overview of how to set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely) goals and tips on writing. Each person will be given a post-it and will establish a writing goal for the day. At a break or at the end of the day everyone will go over their goals, discuss if they were met, and identity challenges/obstacles to writing and how to approach them.  Lunch will be provided during this session. What do you do when you need a form signed, but can’t seem to find your advisor? Maybe you are waiting on feedback for your manuscript, but haven’t heard anything in weeks. Or perhaps you would like to ask your advisor’s advice about something, but are unsure how to start the conversation. As graduate students, we heavily depend on our advisors to help guide us through graduate school; however, we also understand that faculty members are busy.

This is your chance to describe your research idea to the funding agency, how it will be carried out, why your project is important, and the feasibility of such a project. In this session, we will discuss how to develop a strong project narrative and how to communicate your research clearly. This session will also be very beneficial for students who are applying for a SEEDS grant.  Presenter: Kayla Arnold, Office for Research and Gradate Education
