Pivoting with Purpose: How a PhD Scientist Built a Career Beyond the Lab
Primary tabs
Graduate training develops far more than research expertise, but many students wonder how to apply those skills outside the traditional faculty track. This workshop will highlight the career journey of Jay Dahlman, an Associate Director of Licensing at Ohio State, who pivoted from bench research to technology transfer. By sharing his story, attendees will learn about technology transfer, see how academic research is commercialized, and reflect on why scientists are uniquely positioned for this work. The audience will gain insight into an alternative career pathway for PhD graduates and be encouraged to think expansively about how they can use their graduate training to create real world impact.
This event is organized by the CFAES Office for Research and Graduate Education along with the Graduate Student Advisory Council.
