Spring Resources for Graduate Faculty and Advisors

March 5, 2022

There are many things going on this spring to keep us busy, between the many deadlines throughout the semester to planning for summer research. It is hard to believe it is already March! R&GE aims to provide useful resources to support our graduate faculty. Based on questions and feedback received, this month we will be offering a workshop in coordination with OSU Counseling and Consultation Service to address resources and questions about graduate advising. This session will cover resources available with a strong focus on supporting graduate student mental health and wellness. We will share some insight about our CFAES student population, including challenges we are seeing related to graduate advising. We encourage all graduate faculty to register for this important session. Others from the graduate education community, such as Graduate Program Coordinators, are also welcome to attend.

Our thoughts are with students, faculty and staff impacted by the conflict in Ukraine. Know that as global events continue to unfold, this may lead to increased stress for our community members. Please take time to check on your students. While this crisis is ongoing, an action we can collectively take is to engage in discourse and education. As part of the university’s commitment to develop informed citizens and support our community, the Office of Academic Affairs and the Office of International Affairs have partnered to provide a centralized list of academic and support resources for the campus community.

Ohio State’s Center for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies is also compiling a list of resources to help understand the conflict in Ukraine, and Ukrainian history and identity.

And lastly, a reminder that our CFAES Wooster Embedded Mental Health Counselor, Dr. A. Schaad, is available to speak briefly at departmental meetings and share information about CCS and how to support students. If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, please email Schaad directly to set up a time.

We have compiled some additional mental health and wellness resources for students and faculty. We have also updated the CCS syllabus statement to include the correct information for our CFAES embedded therapists. Please update your syllabus to include the latest information.
